Rotherham L.G.B.T - Supporting the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender Community in South Yorkshire
About Us and Our Aims
We are a social and support group for the LGBT community in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.
We hold regular monthly meetings in Rotherham, organise social events for members to attend, and raise awareness of LGBT issues.
The Rotherham LGBT website has recently been updated! There are new photographs in the gallery, and updated contact details for other local organisations, venues, and events.
The 'Events' page now contains information about our upcoming events and meetings in 2016. More details will be provided closer to the time.
We have regular meetings, usually on the first Monday of the month in Rotherham town centre. Everyone is welcome.
Meetings are held between 7pm and 8pm where we discuss group business and forthcoming social events. All suggestions are welcome. After 8pm we sometimes visit a local pub or cafe for a drink and a chat. The choice of venue will be decided by people who attend the meeting, and staying is not obligatory.
If you wish to attend, please get in touch, and we will provide details of the location.
Rotherham LGBT was established in 2012. Since then we have had fun social events such as bowling, cinema and a Christmas dinner. We have been involved in local events for LGBT History Month, International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT), Rotherham's first (and very successful) Pink Picnic, and the subsequent Rotherham Pride.
We are a transgender friendly group and are working with Trans Support which is a local group for transgender people.
We are part of an inter-agency group in Rotherham. The aim of this group is to make for a better standard of living for the LGBT community in Rotherham.
We also are part of a scrutiny panel for South Yorkshire police. This allows us to have a look at how the police are reporting and logging crimes in and around Rotherham. We also work with Victim Support to better help our members and those in our community who have been victims of crime.
Hate crime is defined as a crime targeted at someone because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, belief, race, ethnicity, or disability.
Rotherham LGBT can help you in reporting hate crime. If you are affected by a hate crime, we can contact the relevant authorities on your behalf. Please speak to someone at a meeting, or contact us through this website. If you wish to report hate crime yourself, please contact your local police force, or visit http://www.report-it.org.uk/, where you can file a report online.
Trans Support have meetings on the 3rd Monday of every month and run events throughout the year. They provide support for transgender people including trans-male and trans-female, as well as their families and significant others.
Pride of Rotherham
We are part of the Pride of Rotherham group which ran Rotherham's first Pink Picnic in 2013, and Rotherham Pride in 2014 and 2015.
Rotherham Pride 2016 will be held on Saturday 16th July 2016 in Clifton Park.
